Evaluation of our media products

(1) In what way does you media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
There are various ways in which our media product uses conventions of real products in the media. For example, music videos, for rock songs, rely on the genre of the song and stick to this. The typical features in music videos include frequent band shots, quick cuts (any editing which reflects the pace), low key lighting/ chiaroscuro (in some rock videos) and a clear narrative which reflects the emotional meaning in the song. We feel that we have successfully included all of these elements in our video, showing our use and clear understanding of intertextuality. In our music video, the main focus is on the protagonist - Sean. But the band are an important factor to the video as they are very representative of the song, and also me as the ex-girlfriend. I am an important character as my actions cause Sean to feel the way he does, which forms the storyline of the video. This shows how we reflect real media products as in various rock music videos, the protagonist is important to the song but in many genres of music, this works also. Another use of intertextuality is our understanding and use of Todorov's theory and other conventions. (where he talks about equilibrium-disequilibrium-equilibrium.) This factor is important in our video as it shows how sean goes from happiness, to being let down, then at the end, he lets me down and is shown to be superior and happy again as he now knows that i feel like he has felt.

Looking back at my evaluation of 'Waking the demon' by Bullet For My Valentine , we can clearly see that it is a convention portraying darkness and the use of light. Chiaroscuro is important here and also we decided that this was a main factor to portray meaning and feelings in our music video. We feel that we have challenged our use of lighting, in different ways, which variate our shots. An appropriate use of lighting is important in videos portraying the mood of anger, darkness and depression, which ours and waking the demon does, so a clear link to this video shows how we have challenged real media conventions in many ways. In many 'rock' music videos, a love story to a break up can be shown in various ways. But usually they are portrayed in the way in which we have done it, through our music video. The production company in line with our video wouldn't have to take any risks in producing and promoting our video as we have tightly stayed in our genre and have nothing that our audience will be shicked by (negatively) as we have portrayed our genre of 'metal rock' well. Our video would only attract rock music lovers as we have stereotypically chosen a band image and an image of our actors to suit this. So someone who likes pop would see their image and straight away dislike the video. Another way that we have developed and challenged conventions of real media is our use of the "structuralism" theory. Propp's theory states that structuralism can be applied to generic film genres and that every media concept has a structure. It comes from culture as directors use the culture/typicalness of film and structure it in their own way - so a form of intertextuality is used but structured to suit them - like what me and Ben have achieved.

(2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Along with the music video that my group produced, we also created a digipak CD cover (the front of it, insert and back) and a magazine advertisement to promote this, then to be shown in a magazine. I feel that all of our products link together well and that they stay within our chosen genre, which we could of slipped up on. This would of happened if we used a different font and colour (such as pink) as they would not look effective and represent our genre well enough. Therefore we decided to stick with the same font, being, "cracked" as our products needed to look part of the 'metal' genre and represent our video and chosen genre of music well. This also attracts our audience as they will be drawn towards our chosen image and font, as its style is interesting and is alike to the kerrang magazine font, of which they would read. The image we chose for our digipak and poster was of a crying eye (my eye). As a group, we feel that this image is the most capturing aspect of our ptinted media products, as of the depressed/upset meaning it gives through it, also effectively linking to our video which is what we wanted. As all three products link in one way or another and the printed media products promote the music video and song well. Sticking with the cracked font throughout gives the band a signiture image with their name. This lets them be recognisable from this font, as when one goes into a music shop to purchase a cd, the bands name (and font the name is in) is what one looks for, as it is a signiture image for them. Again with the image of the eye, we feel that it doesn't sell the artist like most cd's do, it sells the song and video, as of the close relation between the two. At the end of our video, i am left feeling upset. I start to cry which reflects the title of the song and the lyrics "has no-one told you, your crie's are all in vain?" as me becoming upset shows Sean 'telling me' and leaving me feeling the way he did. This all reflects our image and the use of it and also how effective our combinations of our media products are.

(3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?
From the audience feedback, i feel that Ben and I have learnt a lot regarding the planning and research (with the depth that you need to go into just to appeal to your audience)to then create and produce the video well! I know that I wanted to do a rock music video as rock music is my favorite type of music, therefore I knew that Ben and I had to appeal to the right audience, as we had already chosen a genre of music of which we both agreed on. After me and ben had chosen the genre, we decided to brainstorm various, popular metal bands of today such as machine head and Bullet for my valentine. Cries in vain appealed to us and after getting some feedback from our friends who listen to the same music we do, we decided that this would be a good representation of our music video's genre. By posting four different polls on my blog, I got to see how my audience fealt about the build up to my production and if my planning and research was paying off, from the early stages to th later stages. I also was lucky enough to recieve a few comments from my audience, where i got to view their likes and (if so) any dislikes or thoughts on improvements needed. The feedback that i recieved from a few people in my target audience when my group finished the video, was very helpful. As from this I got to see if what i had planned and produced was good enough and if my final product was to their expectations. As you can see, they were very pleased with what my group produced and I personally feel that we have targeted the correct audience well and that the images of the band, cd cover, lighting in video and our use of colours really attracted them towards our products. Therefore, I believe that as a group, we have learnt that the best results from our audience feedback was the focus group, as we got to see their reactions to our video first hand and knew there and then their true feelings which were evidently pleasing for us to hear and also that an audience are a very important aspect in the media as well as ones research, planing and production.

(4) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stages?
I used media technologies in many ways, within making my video, CD cover and magazine advert. To begin with, premier.pro was one of the most important technologies in my groups production as it was the programme that helped my group to create and edit our video. It is a very advanced programme and compared to I-movie (which was used during my preliminary task)it was very different and challenging. But next to this in importance, was the internet. It provided me with enough research and planning with websites such as Youtube and Google. From this i was able to analyse music videos to use as inspiration and to look at their use of different angles, their use of pace and also the lighting etc. (in the videos like Waking he Demon). This also shows my use of conventions in the media, despite the difficulties with some of the videos not having embedded codes. Evidently, the internet was important as all of my research, construction and production was posted on this blog, which furthered my intrest also to be creative and make my blog interesting to not just a target audience but also anyone who was producing a media project like myself.

Other products and techs I used were photoshop, a video camera and a digital camera. Photoshop was used to produce our adverts and digipak. As i have used this programme the year before, I knew straight away what to use, but i did find certain things that i had never seen before which could make my poster and digipak stand out. Photoshop really helped me and Ben to construct creative and effective products and we feel that out knowledge and use of photoshop had grown. The digital camera was so important as we needed this to take a picture of myself to be used in the video, to take pictures of our locations and also the band images. Then the digital camera was used for the footage for our final video. We spent most of our time doing this as we wanted to capture as many shots as we could, for when it came to editing we had enough footage to choose from. This was challenging as it became interesting to try high, low and canted angles with and without the use of a tripod. All of the technologies that we used as a group and that I used on my own helped Ben and Myself create, construct and plan easier as without these our products would not be as effective as we believe they are.

Music video - coursework video

This is our coursework music video, it is called cries in vain and is by Bullet For My Valentine.

Audience Feedback:
We formed a small focus group of around 8 people of who me and Ben thought would be interested in our video. They watched the video and gave us feedback once they had seen it twice. From their comments you will see if we pleased the audience who were targeted by this kind of video and music: 'rock music'.
Viewers comments:
'really good video! I like the lighting used in the night shots and how the locations are used' - kellie

'The quick cuts make the video interesting to watch and they suit the music videos genre and i really like metal music and this video really looks like a metal video which is professional' - Sammi

'The band shots were my favorite because the location of the shots was very interesting' - Joe

From our audience feedback, Ben and I can see that from our research and planning, we have successfully produced a video that 'Metal' music listeners are interested in and that it is something that they are intrigued by and believe to suit its genre well.
I feel that the focus group was a very good idea as we were able to show our video to our friends and get their true feelings and opinions on it. This helped because any little issues or problems that they found with it could be changed, as we could re shoot/re edit it to suit their full needs as a video is there to promote the band, their song and to please the fans.

What will hopefully be achieved by the end of our video!

The shots that we have produces variate through using a handheld camera to show a p.o.v shot, using the tripod for long shots and also close ups. We tried to use the tripod for the majority of our shots. But is we had to move around quickly we would either move the tripod around or hold the camera without the effect of shaking the shot. It important to use tripods as it gives video's a professional feel to it, as Hollywood filming uses all the technicalities.

It is evident that when filming a music video, the singing has to look in synch. Lip and beat syncs must be accurate and it really shows if a video has been well planned as of the good/bad outcome. Me and Ben worked very hard in getting the singing in time with the song uploaded onto premier pro. The hardest part of our video was getting the drumming, bass and guitar playing in time with the song. It is a fast paced metal song so the players had to look perfect. They worked really hard with us and it was very interesting to do as it was a challenge to make the playing fit the timing of the song.

We have started some of our editing and have been playing around with various transitions such as fade to black, cross dissolve etc. We discovered that this looked effective on the shot of Ben looking up, as we were not able to do the shallow focus.
The main 'editing' challenge for me and Ben in the quick cuts. In rock music videos, quick cuts are so important as they set the feel and impact of a music video's pace and feel. We have been trying our best to show clear continuity throughout and hope when we finish our video, everything fits well and our final product shows that we have carefully planned everything to do with our music video and that this is clear to those who watch it.

MISE en scene is an important aspect in mine and Ben's video. Our locations are simple but are used in a complexed way that fits our genre and atmosphere. Our Lighting choices (low key/chiaroscuro) are used to suit the atmosphere and feel of the video which give off an effect. We did this by using a street light and various torches. Costume was a key element to suit our chosen genre as if one of the actors looked as though they should be in an R&B video then we would not be clearly stating the genre of our chosen song and the relation to the people within our video, to the genre.

Final thoughts

Code of clothing:

Here is an image of a typical mental band. As you can see, they are all in black clothes and are a band who are part of the metal genre in the rock music world.

An important aspect of any metal video is the image that the band and the actors give off. To relate to the genre and for the video to look effective, the characters have to look both authentic as members of the band, as fans and as actors. Therefore in my group, we decided that we will be strict with our 'code of clothing' and i do feel that we have successfully incorparated this in our video, as every shot where the clothing changes, we still look part of the metal genre and we love the idea that the band suit their genre so well, as of them wearing band teeshirts and wearing black!

Mise en scene:
As a group, we are very happy with the use of mise en scene in our video. The music videos that we have researched contain things such as band t-shirts which add to the authentic theme of the video, which is metal and showing that ours is no different. The main characters room is full of of band posters and there is a part of our video where we have used this to our advantage and used in a graphic match of sean screaming, as the male in the poster is also screaming. This is a small but effective addition to our video and we think that it emphasizes the music video's tone.

Editing and Filming:
- One of the main aims we had in our filming process was for the editing to reflect the pace and emotion of our chosen song song and we feel we have achieved this. A fast pace indicates that there is more aggression and a rushed atmosphere, then the slower pace shows sadness and thought. We believe that timing was also a key element as we had to be so precise with our shots so they would fit the song and the synch of the words sung by the band. So this shows that most of our editing was based around being in time with the song, especially the band members.
- We aimed to have a dark atmosphere to our video so filming at night helped with this a lot. Yet, this was hard in terms of lighting and making sure that the important characters (me and Sean) and events in the video's narrative were still visible, even though filmed in the dark. We used alot of chiaroscuro in our video and it fits the mood and authentic look of our 'metal' music video.

Major change to video!

(1) The crowd scene that me and Ben planned well can not be accomplished in our video. It was difficult to achieve as we had 20 people willing to be our 'crowd' but Sean could not make it when we needed him and the others were busy at different times. We have slightly altered the ending of our video by getting rid of the crowd shot and adding another idea. When Sean hits Chris, we will still have the graphic match running shot but Sean will run to an alley way. We decided to use this location as is is secluded from the park and streets and that is how my feelings feel. In the alley I will get out the rose he game me in the flashback and he looks at it, looks at me and then throws it on the floor, i fall to my knees and the final shot is sean walking away (we will make this effective by having it fade put to show the memory of my has gone in Sean's mind).

(2) We want to show the elipsis (change of time) in our video from when Sean looks on n facebook to see im going out with Chris, to him going out and seeing me and Chris. We will have shot to show the time he is looking at on his laptop, which will be 4:30 and then a shot of him deciding to catch up with them at 6:30 (when he looks at the time again) to confront them with how he feels. We will need Sean to look as though he has been running to catch up with me and Chris.

Media products - Digipak and Magazine poster/ advertisement

These images/sketches are tho ones that me and Ben have chosen to use for our printed media. The crying eye will be the digipak image and we will use the image in different ways over and over again on the inside of the cd, or we will use another image of the band to variate our image choice. Then on the back of the Digipak we will have the track listings and the image of the band. We will have to also insert the informaton of the record company etc.

For the magazine poster, we want to use the image on the front of the cd as a background image and then one of the band at the bottom. We will have a small insert shot of the cd at the top with the bands name and some text to 'attract' the cd to metal listeners. For our text we will use colours of black and red, and the font of 'cracked' as this looks most like a 'rock music' font.

Image analysis:
Here you can see two images that me and Ben have chosen for the background of our magazine advertisement and our digipak.

We have chosen these images because they portray the feeling and emotion that comes across in our video. It was hard to look like i was crying as i had to make sure i gave of the right emotion, yet, make my eye look bold and the centre of attention. We shall emphasize this fact by using adobe photoshop. I feel that these images show an emotional connotation as of the emotion and colour in the eyes. I like that my eyes are slightly red which shows even more emotion as it looks like i am really crying, so we will not have to edit that part of the picture as it already looks effective.

Final Products:

The digipak:

Here is the 'digipak' that my group have created. We used all of our own images and edited them on photoshop. On the left you can see the back of the CD. We decided to use the same image and make it black and white at we thought repeating it would look effective. We have listed the tracks on the CD and noted that there is live footage and a music video contained on the CD.At the bottom we have pasted the record company the band belongs to and also a copyright sign and a dvd sign, these are found on digipaks and are always shown on the back.

The next image is the front of our digipak. We edited the image by using the burn tool around the eye to emphasize its importance a little more. We placed the band name at the top in red ad it stood out on my blonde hair. Then just left of my eye is the name of the album which is 'cries in vain'. It is unusual that we placed digipak at the bottom, but we thought that this would show clearly that this is what the CD was, and that it contained not just songs, but a music video etc. For this font we used 'cracked' as it looks most rocks and we gave the text a drop shadow to look like it was floating.

Finally there is the inside of the digipak. At the top is a quote from the song 'cries in vain' and the sophisticated picture under this suits the song quote well. (as they are expressionless). For the background we found an effect on photoshop that looks like a fuzzy tv screen, which suits the metal genre and emphasizes the fact that this band is shown on TV and there are music videos involved with this CD. This band shot is also shown on the poster but on here we used a fuzzy effect on them and darkened the image slightly to differ it slightly and to make them stand out on the inside of the CD.

The poster to promote our digipak:

Here you can see the magazine advertisement that me and Ben have produced. We have once again used the eye as the posters background image which we feel adds even more promotion towards our product. The font we have used is once again 'cracked' as we feel that we should stick to the genre we chose by using a font which portrays this well. We have used a poster effect on the band which makes them stand out in this image as we have given them an effect which emphasizes that they are in a rock band, as strange effects are usually used on rock bands posters. Me and Ben decided that by placing quotes from two famous rock magazines, 'Metal Hammer' and 'Kerrang', this would give readers of a magazine, that our poster would be issued in, an insight to how 'good' the CD, songs and video really is. In a digipak the video is the most important thing i feel, therefore giving the text 'digipak' a large font, it shows the main purpose of our promotion of the CD.

Magazines that would promote our advertisement: As our band are 'metal' and we are promoting a metal digipak, the types of magazines that we feel, as a group, it would be shown in would be Kerrang!, Metal Hammer and Rock Sound magazine. They promote music all the time (of different genres of rock/metal) in their weekly issues, so readers of these magazines would definitely be interested in our poster, as it has aspects to capture the attention of our chosen audience a of the colour choice, the band shot and the layout. We feel that we have used intertextuality well as the typical colours shown in a metal advert of on a CD are black, white, red etc and we have chosen an effective font and layout, with the band's neutral expression, the choice of text and font and also where things were placed.

Inspirational video to look at when filming band shots

This video is a good example of a simple video with various band shots. We want to show how we have used intertextuality a lot and I think that this video shows the kind of shots we will want to use in the next stage of our filming. It uses a slight lighting on the band but still sticks to the dark feel of the music genre - metal! We also want our crowd shots to look like the band are playing live, this may work but if it doesn't then we will try to make it look effective otherwise.

Difficulties in filming

We have encountered a few problems during the last stage of our filming. The first problem was the fact that it gets darker earlier this time of year, so when wanting to film the shots of Sean in the day, we had to do it after school, but his college course finishes at 4:30 and it gets a little dark and doesn't suit our video. Our video requires several complexed locations from streets to bedrooms to parks and finally an old out house. This means doing filming on different days which is difficult, due to the fact that some of the actors we required could not make it. Me and Ben did not want to continue filming without the actors who were missing just to get it done, we wanted to wait till they could all make it. We found a solution to this problem, as we have made another timetable that the actors agree to stick too (rather than it being last minute) so we can definitely get our filming finished and also for the dark shots we used different types of lighting but still, we needed sean to be able to act in the daytime. With our timetable, we hope to overcome the problems that occurred during this stage and make our video look the standard we are hoping it to be. We hope that we will have enough time to do our crowd scene, as it is quite difficult to have a lot of people free to film at one time and the space we would like to use is limited.

Planning of our poster /magazine advertisement and digipak cover

Here is a poster/magazine advertisement idea. Me and Ben have briefly sketched a poster idea. We decided that having comments from magazines (rock magazines) to give the digipak an authentic feel and appeal to people who are our target audience. We got the idea of the whole band on the page just standing there with a neutral expression (alike to the one i analysed) some text to shows the song is "out now" and a small thumbnail picture of the cd/digipak that is available now in one of the corners, we decided that the locations to use for these shots will be outside, but if too windy, then we shall film in the room we filmed out band shots in! We may decide to put the shot of the band at the bottom but if it works we will try and use the whole image. I think the colours and the image of the band will be the USP of this product.

Here is a digipak/cd cover idea. We thought that the words cries in vain in an interesting 'crying' effect would look good. then a simple band shot and the band name which will contrast to the colour of the background. It is a possibility that we will have the bands instruments in the background - at the moment this is not our favorite idea. The title of this product is defiantly the USP as it reflects our song choice and the emotion we give out in the video.

Here is another digipak/cd cover idea. Me and Ben think this idea is the best we have come up with so far. It will capture the attention of 'rock' music listeners as we will use lighting to light up the girls face (preferably me) so it looks like a shadow is on her face/low key lighting, which will add to the emotion of 'sadness' that the image is giving off. We will then have cries in wain in a glowing white colour so it stands out on her face and then the band name under the song name. We will maybe have a small inserted shot at the bottom of ben with his arm in the air holding his mic or even of him singing (as this shows it is a digipak as well as a cd - footage of the band live or a video as well as the music). The USP of this product is the image we use. The close up of the eye with a glow on the face to give a moody/emotional feel. It will attract the attention of rock music listeners due to the colours/image and font that we use.

Here is another poster/magazine advertisement idea. It is like the first poster idea we came up with. But this time it is just the band standing there - without any instruments. We will have a glowing light around them (we hope to do this either by effect or by the use of our own lighting. The reason we stuck to this simplistic poster idea is because many rock band posters are simple with its image but complicated with its effects - so we want to achieve this. Again the band image on this product will be the USP. Me and Ben will edit it to look interesting to our audience.

Chiaroscuro

In our music video, Chiaroscuro is very important. It shows how we have used intertextuality and how the mood the low key lighting has - how it fits into our video.
It gives an effect that portrays darkness and tension within a film or music video. We want to use it to create tension in our video and to show our understanding of lighting and how to use it appropriately.

*YouTube.com*

This video is something that me and ben found on the internet, it explains what chiaroscuro is and how it can be shown. I have posted it to show the kinds of things my group have looked at to help us in the development of our work.

Changes to original story board ideas

We started to film our video then decided that a few things could be changed when beginning our editing:
We have added a shot of the girl looking down before the ipod shot to show her turning it on (she's listening to it) and having the ipod from 2 seconds onwards as that is how many seconds it will be in on the song. The shot of Ben slightly breaks the rule of thirds so we should like to shoot this again so that we can change it to suit it and as the song is already playing, we thought that changing his head raising from looking down, to one of his face and holding the mic, would be much more effective (or we could try to use it to fit the rule of thirds and fit the part of the song)
The slowing down of the bands feet before hitting the ground (we decided) would not work as the song begins to get quite fast paced and slowing it down would not work as the rest of the song needs to have quick cuts and the synch would be out of time if we lengthened a shot. But we will use slow motion in another part of the song, it is before the last chorus and the song slows down, so when Ben jumps in the air and the band begin to play, there will be a jump - this is used a lot in rock music videos, therefore we continue to use intertextuality and it shows how we tightly stick to the correct genre by using ideas from real media conventions.

The shots of the girl walking down the street (me) worked well, but it was still quite dark. Me and Ben decided that that having my hood up would darken the shot too much so we left it how it was and chose to just use a little more lighting to make sure I could definitely be seen, without it being to dark and not suiting the chirascuro wanted.
When the girl (Me) walks to the house, by just having a long shot and a mid shot, it does not look very variated. So my group decided to give it an edge, by adding a big close up of the girls telephone - she is texting Sean saying "ITS OVER!!!" and a close up of it sending sets a story - the reaction i will act this shot to make myself look like 'i dont really care' about my actions.

Ben came up with the idea that at the lyrics "answer to my prayer's and your not there" - We will have in synch with the words, Sean drinking the alcohol he found in his kitchen, which shows how he has turned to that to calm his nerves as an escape from his depression.

Stages of filming

Here you can see screen shots of the filming me and Ben have produced so far. I have print screened the shots that show how we have used different camera angles and which show how we have stuck to the story board. We decided that the best thing to do with the band shots was to film them last so we could focus on getting the sync correct with the correct timing with the chosen song.

This is a close up of Ben's face, in this part of the song he has to look like he is really singing the words "your cries". We played around with different angles but the best one was at the side and a close up as it showed how he is in synch with the song and looks exactly like he is singing it.

A close up of feet can represent rush, page, anger and excitement. In our video it is used to show pace and anger/hurt. The shots go from Sean on the bed, to him about to walk out of his room, then to his feet. The variation of shots fit in with the quick paced cuts wanted in our video and used in many rock videos. Clear intertextuality here.

Here i have pasted a screen shot of me, that Ben filmed, showing an eyeline match shot. It adds to the darkness and tension of the video and as you can see, me used lighting on my face to show much more clearly, the shot we were aiming for.

This shot is a close up of the bands feet (all in time) hitting the ground. The shot before shows them about to jump and in the air, then a quick cut to their feet. Me and Ben thought that this would be a good way of showing how we are variating our band shots and using different techniques that we were inspired by from other media conventions.

This shot shows how I had to act well. I had to look moody and give off the impression that i was about to do something i may regret (dump sean). As you can see we once again used lighting on my face. Ben used a small torch which looks like the light of an ipod shining on my face, which is what we wanted to achieve, as i turn on the ipod and the song starts. As said in the story board, we chose the ipod shots as the songs name "cries in vain" links to how I am supposed to feel, my cries are in vain as i have broken up with sean and I regret it/am upset about it, yet do they really mean anything? - The feeling of being upset and angry comes across a lot in metal/rock music videos, for example in "waking the demon" so here we have used our knowledge on what we know about music videos and therefore, have used intertextuality.

This shot is a slight high angle shot of the band. As the lead singer, Ben is at the front (slightly more) and this is typical in rock music videos. We used my coach house to shoot the band shots, it is dusty and old and gives off a 'rock' effect. In a lot of rock music videos there are sometimes 'strange' locations and referring back to my analysis of 'my hero' they are in different rooms each time they sing - we have also tried to so this. I used a slight high angle shot because the band are made to look dominant in this music video - are on Seans side!

Premier Pro:

Premier pro was very difficult to use at the start of our editing stage. So we decided to edit our video in strips. This has been working well so far and we have played around with black and white/fade in effects to see what looks interesting to use and to see how easy it is to add these into our video when loading on the shots of the 'flashback'.

-Here are a few screen shots of what premier pro looks like. The bottom image is the timeline of where you can view and edit your shots. The song is placed on the bottom like and as you can see the shots look really small, but there is a scroll button in the bottom left hand corner where you can make the shots look bigger so that they are easier to cut.

Here is the side toolbar on premier pro. It displays all of your uploaded footage and sound tracks used, so if you wanted to re use any footage all you have to do is drag it to the timeline. Under this are all of the things that you ca use to edit your video/film trailer. There are sound effects, video transitions and various video effects to make your video interesting to everybody.

Timetable of filming so far

As you can see, here is a time table of when we can film our video. Me and Ben spoke to Sean and discussed what days/nights we would be able to shoot the video. We also had to book the camera from school so we made sure we had a timetable to show when we would like to use the camera. We plan to film most of the video in these seven days, the week after we plan to do the band shots on the weekend and then look at editing it later the week after to finalize our video. The colours at the top show the days of the week, each box underneath shows the date of each day over the space of October/November. The orange squares show the days we have been available to film so far. In these days we shot night shots on different days, shots of Sean in the house and some of the band shots. I feel that it has worked well so far but for the other half of our filming, me and Ben will have to choose when we can film the daytime shots on a weekend as it will take around one full day to two to get enough footage to have a variety of shots when it comes to the editing stage.

Why Mise En Scene is important

For our music video, Mise En Scene is very important. We need a clear understanding of the 'code of clothing' as being a reflection to a person who listens to rock. This means dark clothes, red clothes, converse shoes, vans etc.
It is important in our video because it reflects the use of intertextuality of other music videos that have inspired us, as in those videos the band and the actors all wear dark clothes that reflect the metal genre.
The lighting is very important for us also. Chiaroscuro/low key lighting is important in the video as it signifies the mood of our video which is dark and upset (depressed feeling). The Mise En Scene in our video is mostly important because it shows how we have used and interpreted the use of theory within our video and shows our narrative through the lighting, locations etc
A key element of mise en scene in our video is one of our props, the rose.
Rose's symbolize love, therefore, when Sean gives 'me' the rose, he is expressing his affection and indicating to the audience his true feelings for me. The rose is also brought back in the end of the video. I get it out of my pocket and it is dead and broken - this is a symbol that the love me and Sean had is now broken so different connotations are given off by this rose and it is a very important aspect of the music video's story line.

Analysis of poster and cd/dvd covers

This is an interesting DVD cover as it also sticks to the simple colours of white black and red which fit in with the rock genre. I Liked this DVD cover because the close up shot of the hand with a microphone in it. This shows the victory the band feels and its intresting with this DVD as is it of them live. It has shots of the crowd and a band member on the back. I like how the images are dark with a bit of red then the writing on the DVD cover is interesting. On a whole it is very striking and i like the close up of the hand. If i was to create a cover i would probably use a close up of of the microphone or a band members instrument to make it strikng. This has inspired me to do this kind of layout for the dvd cover. I think that band shots and good effects can make the cover look very professional and can attract an audience who have listened to them before, or, seen them live and found it a life time experience.

This is a good CD cover for me to analyse as if is of a Metal album. The classic black and red colours fit in with the rock genre. It is simple yet effective as the image is all red on a black background, but the link to its title 'the poison' and the colours chosen show how a simple image with hardly any colour can be effective. It is clever how the creators of this artistic feature have used a lighter red to show the light coming in from the door and the shadow reflecting upon her! From seeing this i think that it is good to show the genre you fit into as a band by using the correct colours and images. That way you can approach your audience in he correct way.

Analysis of cd cover (inspiration for our cd cover):

I chose to analyse this cd cover because it is simple but its simplicity makes it effective. The white background sets all of the attention on the photo of the band and the band name/album name. The band photo is a sort of silhouette in this picture. From analysing this, i think that me and Ben could try and use this effect when doing our cd/dvd digipak cover. It's efefctive and it shows how we have noticed the usage of this kind of imagery in other media conventions portraying the metal/rock genre.

POSTER:

This poster is of Bullet For My Valentine. I chose to analyse this because, first of all, it sticks to the 'dark' colour scheme of its genre. I like how the expression of the band is quite neutral and the lead singer (slightly mor ein the foreground) is easily noticable. Their choice os clothing also reflects the 'metal' genre and the title being in white stands out on the dark background. The best effect is the bullet hole in the foreground. It looks like the camera lens is broken and it creates emphasis on this poster as the name 'bullet for my valentine' is reflected through it.

Magazine advertisement:

This advertisement is a good example of what 'capturing attention' should look like. I like the fact that the colours are neutral - white, black, slight red and a sight green. It has an attractive background, image and also there is text in the right place. The band are not shown on this poster but you can see them, slightly, on the cd cover which is an idea we may use. I like the different fonts that are shown on this page so i think that we could establish this in our media product.

DIGIPAK:

This is an image from *google* images of a typical digipak. As you can see there is a repetitive use of yellow and unusually, where the CD is places, there is no image. On many digipaks (like one i have at home) there are images below where the CD goes which makes it more interesting to look at. A digipak should be more attractive than a normal CD as you get more from it, not just 10-13 songs, you may get live footagem music videos, live songs, bonus songs etc.
On this digipak, the images are different on every section which is interesting, but me and Ben believe that we will like to use the same image and make it look different/use it in a different way as it is the main selling point of our digipak and poster. The image will greatly reflect our music video and song choice.

Initial ideas for own video's

Camera angles:
Extreme close up
Medium close up's
Mid shot
long shot
P.O.V shot
Eyeline match
Low angle
High angle
Ariel shot
over the shoulder
canted angle

Editing:
quick cuts
fading from black
cut to flashback - shown by a black and white shot to signify the difference (it looks lighter than the darker depressing shots which shows how he used to be happier with the girl.)
Graphic match
shot reverse shot (shown by editing quick cuts of their faces)
fade to black/another black &white shot at the end (this could show how she is left upset or if we use the black and white shot, it could show how she's just a memory to him and he is over her after getting his revenge)

Special Effects:
Slow motion(possible at the end of the song with the walking away shot of Sean)
- we could possibly use the green screen in the band shots to add an edge to the shots (we will do this is we have enough editing time)

Target Audience

This is an image of a typical 'metal' band *from google images*

Our target audience as said in the analysis, are people who listen to 'rock' music preferably the 'metal' genre. People who will be interested in our music video will be students - working class with an age group of fifteen to twenty five.
There are a lot more males who listen to metal music but our video is aimed at both genders. This will be shown very clearly through our video due to the costumes, lighting, mood and the music chosen (Mise En Scene). Theory is so important within music videos and without it every video would be the same. A music video needs to have something that aims to its audience, therefore a pop music video wouldn't aim to someone who likes rock. People who listen to 'metal' music generally wear band tee shirts and darker clothes, we will reflect this point in our video so that this definition is shown. My group hopes to achieve showing this in our video and after it's creation, we will do a survey to our target audience to see if it has reached their expectations. We will also choose a small group of people, forming a focus group to view our video. Once they have seen it, me and Ben will see what they thought and ask them anything they believe could be better. From this my group will know what we can do to make the final video better than before and that now it will reach higher expectations to appeal to our target audience!

Focused analysis

Analysis of locations:

Our locations as you can see are streets in the day/night, a bedroom (various different places in the room), a bathroom, and a place where the band will be playing. This will be held in an out house that i have, it is dusty, dark and really old which will be the perfect location for us to use because it shows how we have done our research and know how to use good locations which shows our use of intertextuality, chosen within our mise en scene.
We are using simple locations but it is how we will make them look effective in our video.
Some of the street shots will be done at night but we took the pictures in the day so that we could show clearly where we would be filming. The bedroom shots are interesting because that is his place of confinement as it reflects his anger over his break up. The shots of the trees in the park shows how we found a location that has good lighting with shadows through the trees. We were pleased that the lamp-posts gave us enough light in the dark that reflected the effect of chirascuro when we took our photos.
From the comment on my group's 'location' photos made my Mr Raymond. We have decided to use our locations in a m ore 'domestic' way, as he suggested, to make it more interesting. The shots we took of the stairs will be shot (in our filming of the video, to give it effect) in the dark with some lighting from above and then some from below to see how we could possibly make the shot of the stairs more interesting, fitting in with the dark mood and theme of our chosen song. The shots of the streets and out of the window that we have used, we think, can be shot to show a less suburban area and make our locations look more professional, and not just an easy location of a typical street.
But for now, we have decided to shoot our video and edit it the way we planned and then see if it can be improved by using the variations suggested by Mr Raymond, as he will be part of an audience who will be viewing our music video.

This location is important as it is where Sean see's Chris and myself ad it is where he starts the argument and punches chris. We want to so this shot at night time to stay close to our chosen genre with effects of chiaroscuro and low key lighting to stick to a dark tone.

Also, Ben's bedroom is a very important place in this video as it is a reminder to Sean of all his happy memories with me. The flashbacks are shown in here because it was the place where he was with me, giving me the rose to express his love.

These images show the bridge in the park that will be shown in the final scenes. The bridge where I (as my character) first attempt to win sean back. We chose the bridge as it was different to the previous location and the water added to the overall lighting of the film and provided some variety.

This is a shot of the alley way where Sean finally breaks up with me. We began the video with a single lampost-lit alley and now we have ended in one. It's simple setting allows the majority of the focus to remain on the characters and the lighting adds tension and effect i the mood of the video and on the characters faces.

As you can see, the tree's branches hang down which make this location more interesting and create the feeling of enclosure. Ben and I were looking for a dark and mysterious setting for our final shots. This grassy park location was our first choice and we feel that is is suitable for the narrative in our video.

Sound/and music analysis:
My group has chosen Bullet For My Valentine's song 'Cries In Vain', shown in the storyboard analysis, as we think our story line that we have created in our storyboard planning is going to fit very well and through knowledge on theories we will show through our filming that we have a clear understanding of using different shots to create a story and stick to our narrative for the song and how we can stick to our genre without choosing any shots and editing that does not suit our theories. When planning, i have chosen music videos to analyse that are in the same genre as the song my group has chosen. We both listen to rock, so our group was easily put together. For a target audience it is clear to see that our video will attract 'rock' music listeners who appreciate that music. Were not looking to aim our video at people who listen to 'pop' or 'dance' which will show through our editing and our chosen theories.

To make our video effective, we will need the actor playing 'the lead singer' to be in sync with the song so it matches the sound and music in the video. The lead singer will need to look as if he is singing the song live and that he 'is' the real member of the band.

Focused analysis on characters in our music video:
In my group, we have chosen who we will use for the band representing Bullet For My Valentine!
They have said when they will be free which is every saturday in the day, so me and Ben know that we will have to do all of our band shots on a weekend and schedule a timetable nearer to the filming process. Me and Ben both want to be a part of the video, so we have decided, as Ben is in the band, i shall film the band shots and i will be playing the 'ex girlfriend' who is portrayed to be horrible, so on the shots of me Ben shall film those I am the main antagonist and create the disequilibrium in the story. At the end i show how I become the victim. We decided as a group that in the shots we are not featured in, such as the band shots and the shots of me, we shall take it in turns to film these and we will make a timetable and a plan to stick to so we both show that we have had a fair chance of filming the sequence, and stick to the 'group work' scheme.
Our friend 'Sean' has agreed to play the 'ex boyfriend who is dumped' by me and he will be the protagonist of this video as it is about his feelings and his revenge and regret.
We have 'Chris' playing my 'new boyfriend' who will only be in various shots where the song speeds up and the action begins.

Mise en Scene:
The mise en scene we plan to use will be lighting (giving the feel of chirascuro), clothing to fit the 'dark' 'metal' genre.
We will be filming quite a lot at night time so if we cannot find a convenient place to shoot the night shots, we will use a torch to give extra lighting in the shots atmosphere is needed. We will also use various props such as a mobile phone, alcohol and a rose. The phone is important as it is a beginning to the significance of his anger being brought up and the alcohol shows it is something he has possibly turned to as a part of comfort.

Media theories - planning

In class we are currently studying theories such as the theory of narrative, the theory of structuralism and how intertextuality is used within these. Me and Ben discussed what we thought was the best theory to use for our music video. From our story board and chosen story to narrate through the video we decided that Structuralism and Narrative were the best to use.

Vladimir propp exhamined hundreds of fairy tale in the generic form 'the folk wondertale'. He identified eight character roles and three functions which move a story along such as including a punishment of the villain and the ban of an actor.
This is an example of the structuralism theory. He uses intertextuality (other characters such as red riding hood - she has been used before) but structures his films in his own way which brings out the 'structure' part as he is making it different and intresting. He has stated "Structure comes from culture as directors use the typicalness of film and structure it in their own way"

Tzvetan Todorov developed the theory of disrupted equilibrium with in narrative. An exampls is equilibrium " everyone is alive "
disequilibrium " everyone dies "
equilibrium " the case is solved "
So as my example shows, the 'disequilibrium' disrupts normality.

Another theory for narrative is roland barthes's theory. He believed that there are five action codes that enable an audience to make sense of a narrative.
Two examples me and Ben thought stood out to us, as we could use those codes:
Cultural and symbolic were the two we chose. Cultural shows how intertextuality can be used to show our attitudes to gender or racial stereotypes and Symbolic uses iconography so portray a theme such as image verses reality! - An example of this in our music video will be how we will show an image (of his past/the flashbacks) of his past and how he faces reality. It will show how the past images in his head effect him and how he canno't face reality till the end.

Diegisis:
Non - Diagetic narrative events take place off screen - before the movie/music video started, so it is everything we did not see but through the video we can assume clearly what happened. This is a good theory to use as through our video, we will need to show that there was an event that took place before all the drama in our video, that lead to what is contained in our story eg: the break up, it was obviously bad.

Planning our video: Storyboard

This is a story board me and my group came up with. As you can see, we have decided on 'Cries In Vain' by Bullet For My Valentine as we think sticking to the 'metal' genre will guide us to understand what people we will give our quesionnaire to. At first we did one each using our chosen song and then we showed each other our ideas and merged them together to make one final storyboard that we would use for our filming process. We did this because we thought both me and ben in my group would get our own ideas in the video and have a fair chance of editing it and filming it. We both decided what shots would look good for whatever scene and have chosen different lighting to be used for different parts of the song. I am very happy with the way our planning started and how it is coming along now, as i think that with all our ideas and our media knowledge we can make our music video stand out and look very impressive! We were originally drew two storyboards to merge our ideas together and to finalize what we wanted there and then. We have a clear idea of what shots we want to use and we have noted them down on the storyboard. And editing techniques will come in later planning as for now we want to just picture the video from all of our ideas and images drawn on the storyboard. Shots such as close ups, high angle and low angle shots are the shots we decided to use most in our planning. A shot that i think is interesting to use also is a point of view shot as it gives the feel to the audience that they can see what the actor is seeing/feeling, so i later added that idea to our storyboard and i think that with well planned editing, our video will suit its genre and show the theories which we will later choose.

The video opens with a medium close up of a hand and an ipod turning on the song which signifies the song beginning. Me and ben came up with this idea together, we thought that it was an interesting way for the song to start and i personally have not seen it before, It is significant to the video as we will have a quick close up before of the 'ex girlfriend' as she is the one listening to the song as she has broken up the boy and therefore her cries are in vain as he still loves her but she has decided to move on to make him jealous.

When the music begins to open, There is a close up of the lead singer, using the rule of thirds well. We haven't discussed a lot of editing plans but me and Ben have decided that shalow focus would work very well at this point of the song. (The lead singer out of focus, coming into focus)
Then after the close up, there is a long shot shown of the band, to show it is their song and the video is related around their song. The band jumps in union with the music and when they are in the air the shot it slowed down until they land which signifies the song speeding up. The slow motion shot is used in many rock music videos so we will be using intertextuality of other media conventions.

It then cuts to a mid shot of a girl with her hood up walking down a dark street, as she has her hood up and it is dark, it shows clear links towards the dark mood of the video. There is slight chirascuro/low key lighting shown to add tension, we would like to film this at night and have the effect of the street lights but it may not be enough so we will use our own light. There is a quick cut to her ipod in her hand and she is listening to the song 'cries in vain'. Suddenly there is a cut to an eyeline match which shows she is looking around and is scared slightly/worried. The audience will get to see what shes looking at. It then cuts back to the medium close up of the girl and she goes into 'her' house. Shots like this show the audience the difference between the different characters.

We decided to have a close up of the singer at the words 'lord you know ive cried' as thats when the singing begins, which we feel will work well. Then there is a few quick paced cuts relating to the boy and his reactions to his text. A close up of the phone with the words "its over!!!" then three quick paced cuts in the space of a few seconds fits in with the words and shows how we can edit our shots to fit the pace of the song. Then he throws the phone on the bed, and walks out of his room. To show this we will use a close up of his feet walking towards the camera (as if he's walking to go out of his room) and then a mid shot of him leaving his room.

We came up with this idea that a shot of his feet pacing away from his bed, then to him going through a door, then into the bathroom (where the camera is already there. A mid shot will show him splashing his face then the camera will act as the mirror (secret cut) he is standing in front of and his reaction signifys that he is thinking about something. (we will try this and see if it works) - because they will defenately be effective.
A flashback will have to be edited well to show it's difference to a normal shot, but that is the nest shot we decide to do. A flash back to the past where he is with his ex girlfriend and happy! At the lyrics 'your not there' the girlfriend vanishes. We figured that we will achieve this shot by having to do three quick cuts to make it successful. One shot will be of them together, then a cut to him looking down and smiling, then a cut to him looking to where she isn't. He also gives her a rose to say he loves her and she takes it to keep supposedly . We think that in the editing process, we could use black and white to signify the reality from his memory.

There is then an extreme close up of the boys face to show his reaction to his haunting memory. This also fits into the gloomy mood of the video. There is a quick band shot before the next shot (this is intertextuality as this is shown a lot in 'rock' music videos. There is a cut to a new day, a shot of the boys ex girlfriend (who he still thinks about) with her new boyfriend who kisses her on the cheek. They are walking down the street that the ex boyfriend lives. She seems unhappy which reflects the story. There is a shot of the boy which is a low angle shot, of him at his window. He throws something out the window towards them suddenly there is a shot of her back she looks behind and see's that nothing is there and no one is at the window (suspicious) Shots to show this is a long shot then a close up to a two shot.

A few band shots carry on. Then there's quick cuts to the boy in his room and seeing a new notification on facebook which states where his ex girlfriend is going with her new boyfriend/ that she's going out wit her boyfriend. He sees this and closes it.
The next shot involves an extreme close up of the lead singers face at the 'screaming' part of the song which links to the next quick cut shot to the boys face which matches the lead singers (they're both screaming, different meanings but shows a link) this is a slight graphic match as it is the same face but changes. Me and Ben discussed how we would portray this shot and we thought to make it effective, we could have lots of quick paced cut between the two people to show a speed up and build up of the anger in the song and also the boys mood, but we will have to se if it works as it could be quite difficult with the limited equipment.
A close up of him holding a picture of his ex girlfriend, it then cuts to a medium close up, he rips up the picture and the shot moves on.

There is an action match shot of the boy walking down the stairs and out the door of his house. There's another flashback (happy flashback) which cuts to a medium close up of the boy then a cut to his eyes (anxious eyes) A p.o.v shot shows how he finds some alcohol in his kitchen, which he then drinks (to show he is depressed and he has seen an opportunity to get drunk and forget his sorrows). Me and Ben have not yet decided what camera angles will suit this shot. He then catches up with his ex girlfriend and her new boyfriend and meets them in a street,he walks over to them in rage.

There is a quick band shot after the last shot with a view of the band. When he reaches the boy and the ex girlfriend, an argument starts and this is shown by shot reverse shot. At the slow part 2:05 with the guitar playing, this is when the argument builds up a lot and when the screaming part of "look away" comes up in the song, he hits the boyfriend and he swears at the girl. He then walks away from the scene. When the music picks up, the boy starts to runaway from the action. His feet show graphic match with the bass and the snare drum. There is a sudden cut to him arriving at the scene where the band are playing. He takes the mic from the lead singer and he begins to sing (the band still into their song)
The girl follows the boy to this scene and she is in the middle of the crowd. A long shot will show this well. At the lyrics "has no one told you ..." they point at her and there will be quick cuts from crowd to her reaction to show the pace ofthis scene. Me and Ben discussed that maybe we could use a hand held camera here to show her reaction being confused and dizzy!

videos to inspire my group for final ideas

This is a mood board i decided to make with all the different shots from the video below. I chose the ones that looked most effective and the ones that i seemed inspired by to want to use in my own music video.

As you can see, the shots i have chosen to use in this mood board all stay in a dark tone of colour. This fits the song genre and it's mood. This is what me and Ben will want to achieve in our video as it will show how we have used intertextuality and are sticking to our genre.

This video is by the same band who me and ben are using for our music video. Its has a good theory of narrative due to its story line and camera angles.

Roland Barthes believes that there are five action codes that enable an audience to make sense of a narrative. Two of his codes are shown and broken in this video. 'PROAIRETIC' is basic narrative actions which means - they must be caught for it to be effective. I feel this is used within this video because we see a bully and a boy who seems slightly different and less popular (intertextuality) and he keeps getting bullied, but for the story line to match the song and its darkness something needs to happen, then at the end we see it, he gets revenge and his next 'victim' mirrors the last one.
But i feel that the video breaks the code of 'HERMENEUTIC' as Barthes states that is a 'narrative turning point' and that being - we know where the story will go next. Waking the demon shocked me the first time i saw itr, i did not expect the ending to be how it was which shows how it was not predictable, even though something needed to happen for the storyline to be effective!

I chose waking the demon because Bullet For My Valentine are a modern Metal band and my group is using one of their songs for our media coursework video. This to me is a very good example for me to use as a lot of the band shots and lighting is what i would aim to use for my video. The quick paced cuts of the different band members when the song speeds up is what my group will be aiming to use. I personally liked the classic shot of the boy turning into a wolf, it wasent animated, a slight shadow and a light (showing chirascuro) darkened the moment and created suspense. I want to use effective lighting and different band shots that are effective.
I like the way that the story flows in waking the demon and fits the pace of the song. It has various close ups and uses shalow focus on the shots in the woods. A classic tracking shot of their feet when running is used and i think that my group would like to use this as there are parts of our chosen song what speed up and we could use inspiration from this video and show how we have used intertextuality from a video of the same genre.

This video is by linkin park. It has an intresting meaning behind it as it has a few simple band shot of them playing the video, but in relation to the lyrics, it has images of problems in the world that link to the bands narrative for the video. At the beginning of the video there is a slow zoom into the band shot as the beginning of the song is quite slow paced with the piano to begin with. As the pace gets faster there are many shots of the band and images of problems around the world, quick cuts add to the pace of the song. I saw that intertextuality is used as the images are of mediated images showing world issues, which watch the lyrics. There are various medium close ups of the singer and the various members of the band and also mid shots. Me and Ben will definitely use close ups and medium close ups when shooting our band shots.
When the lyrics 'wash away' occur there is a relevant image of a world disaster - the pollution in the water which links to the songs context.
As the song slows down the slow motion shot of the drums links to the songs tempo and there is an image of a nuclear bomb blowing the snow off trees which is quite a slow processed action. The lyrics 'Start Again' signify a slight positivity in the song which goes against the bad which has been previously shown. The images of the baby being born and a new rose blossoming link to this. This shows me a clear understanding of the 'narrative theory' with in this video. The message in the song and the images show a clear disequilibrium with the negative images at the start then an equilibrium after the lyrics i have mentioned 'start again' then back to negative images with a final shot of the grass growing again which shows there is hope and things can change which is an equilibrium.
The most interesting shot to me is the graphic match from the sun behind the band linking to an atomic bomb which is a disaster!
From looking at this video. me and ben have decided we could use slow motion shots (to create when editing), close ups, fast paced cuts and links to the lyrics and the theories of the video that we will choose!

I chose this video by Foo Fighters because i thought that it had a lot of interesting shots and it had a good story line.
The fact that the song is called 'my hero' and theres a hero in the video links well.
The video analysis:
The music begins when the male protagonist hits the ground, in time with the drums. He begins to run around towards the action which reflects the speed of the drums. There are interesting cuts between his running shots and the band members playing, as if a way to introduce them! There is a slight zoom towards him as the song begins to add the guitar and the other instruments which implies he is nearer to the action/ going towards it.
When he arrives at the door and opens it, the music begins to play, we see the band in the same location which is not typical of a music video. This shows that he feels like he is a 'good simaritin' whish reflects the videos theme. I discussed this with my group and we decided that this could be an interesting thing to use within our video, so we could make links towards my hero when analysing our music video.
The camera seems slightly hand held which gives the audience the feel that they are part of the action, a good example is when he picks up the baby, you can clearly see how the camera had a hand held effect. When the lyrics 'my hero' occur he picks up the baby to singify he has saved it and is a true hero.

The band shots are very interesting because they are in a different room and a different place each time.
As the music slows down so does the hero, but as he begins to run again, the music's speed begins to pick up, the singing begins when he reaches the stairs. What i find interesting is that we never get to see his face so there is a mystery to who he is.
The hand held camera is shown well and used well in this next scene as he has entered another home, ready to save someone/something else. As he is running through there are various shots of different band members without cutting.
I personally feel like i am running with the 'hero' and i really like that effect.
Once again when the 'hero' lyrics occur, he has saved someones dog. At the end all of the people crown around the hero and the camera has a slight rise which shows everyone is happy and the hero has succeeded. This shot is slow paced and is quite a long shot, but it shows the audience the slowing down of the song as it has finished and that the people are calm as everyone is safe.
